Why is pomegranate production in Maharashtra so miniscule compared to the production in Tamil Nadu?

I have just been trying to find a bit of information about pomegranates farming and production, when i came across these astounding statistic, Pomegranate production per hectare in Maharashtra is about 6000 where as in Tamil Nadu its is over 11000, Can any one tell me what the Tamils are doing?
