Did cops have probable cause to enter the home, or does this not apply?

I was working in a residential structure in the garage when three officers knocked on the garage. I opened the garage not knowing it was the police, it smelled like marijuana in the garage and one officer noticed me putting something in my pocket. when the cops asked about the smell and what i put in my pocket i turned around and entered the laundry room from the garage. The deputies proceeded to not let me close the door completely and tackled me to the ground taking the very miniscule amount of marijuana and writing me a ticket for paraphanelia and possession because i also had a pipe. Did they enter legally or will this get thrown out in court? Also since this was a place of business and other employees work there but were not present, could my defense simply be that it wasn't mine and i was scared is why i put it in my pocket or will i be convicted with that defense?
